Avoiding Steep Costs
Understanding Limited Resources
Example 1
A mid-sized law enforcement agency considers their SWAT team a uniquely skilled and valuable tool for use in certain situations. Procedures and protocols are developed to guide decision makers in the best use of the SWAT team for responding to crisis situations.
Now, consider this scenario: the mayor’s house is burglarized and the SWAT team is deployed in response. Certainly, members of the SWAT team would most likely be able to respond, collect the evidence, and even conduct some follow-up investigation.
However, would this be considered an effective or responsible use of the SWAT team resource?
Most would agree that it is not.
